How we generated $308K in pipeline opportunities for Textgrid in just 4 months using clay and AI-powered tools

Textgrid is an alternative SMS API provider that competes with industry giants like Twilio, Sinch, Vonage, and others. They provide SMS services at 50% less cost compared to these providers—making their offer both compelling and highly competitive.


This compelling value proposition has been key to our success in generating leads for Textgrid since January 2022.

The Challenge

In 2022 and 2023, our outbound strategies consistently delivered impressive results for Textgrid, generating 20–30+ meetings per month. 

However, by 2024, the outbound landscape had shifted dramatically, making it increasingly difficult to achieve the same level of success—even with Textgrid’s compelling offer.

We encountered several challenges during this period:

-Deliverability Issues - A lack of personalization in outreach emails led to declining inbox placement rates.

-Lower Positive Response Rates - The once-effective “spray and pray” approach no longer resonated with prospects.

These issues resulted in a significant drop in the number of meetings booked. The worst moment came when we hit rock bottom: an entire month with zero leads—nada.

Despite these setbacks, Textgrid remained incredibly understanding of the challenges we faced.

The Approach

In July, we introduced Clay into Textgrid’s outbound strategy, marking a turning point in how we tackled the challenges of 2024. This shift enabled us to roll out innovative and targeted campaigns that delivered measurable results.

1. Influencer Outreach

We launched an influencer outreach campaign aimed at YouTube creators producing content around GoHighLevel. By leveraging tools like Apify, Clay, OpenAI, Instantly.ai and others, we scraped a list of relevant creators and sent them highly personalized messages.This strategy allowed Textgrid to connect with influencers who could promote their SMS services to a broader audience. 2. Hyper-Targeted Campaigns for GoHighLevel Users

We also created new campaigns targeting users of GoHighLevel, utilizing tools like Clay, BuiltWith, and ChatGPT to curate a highly specific and relevant prospect list. In this campaign, we avoided complex personalization. Instead, we followed a simple yet effective formula:

Relevance + Offer + Accurate Targeting = Results.

Each prospect received a generic email, but because of the formula, the campaign resonated. Here are some of the responses we received:

This campaign alone, generated over $195k worth of pipeline opportunity for Textgrid.

3. Customer Look-a-Likes

To broaden Textgrid’s reach, we used Ocean.io to identify look-a-like companies resembling Textgrid’s best-performing customers. 

We filtered and enriched these companies’ data in Clay, ensuring we had an updated, accurate, and hyper-relevant prospect list. This method enabled us to expand their target audience while staying closely aligned with proven customer profiles.

The Results

From September 1 to September 30, we generated over $308K worth of pipeline opportunities for Textgrid. While the response rate didn’t hit our goal of 3%, this result shows that we made solid progress despite the deliverability challenges.
